Parking Dumbo

I shall take time off studies to censor off the number plate.

parkingdumboateee

Don’t deprive people of their lots early in the morning, a time when people start to stream into school. I just hope that you parked there ‘temporarily’..

enough distractions. and sorry for the lousy quality, getting a better phone soon.

Breaking news: Vandals attack Mini’s Leng Kee Showroom

If you haven’t heard, some vandals spray-painted “Special My Ass” on the glass panels of Mini’s Leng Kee Showroom before speeding away in their getaway vehicle. Before I go on. Have a look at these 2 videos.

The vandals filmed themselves committing that gross act. a note: The user who uploaded this video signed up for a youtube account just to upload this video. This user joined on the 9th of october. the video was also uploaded on the 9th of october. vandals

A bystander managed to catch the action live

I am surprised that STOMP and the Straits Times have not caught on to this yet. If this is an advertisement blitz, I think the advertisers have gone too far. Depicting someone doing something that breaks the law in an advertisement is bad taste. The idea is there, but in Singapore, nahz, conflicts with the society’s norms. I will use this negative example for my 255 project if this indeed is a form of viral advertisement.

However, if this is done with bad intentions from the start, I hope they will get judged terribly for that childish act. There are more amicable ways to solve issues. Vandalising someone else’s property is lousy, seriously lousy.

recess

*brrrring brrring* It’s recess time. But this time round, it is much much longer than 30 minutes. 7 no-need-to-go-school days. Recess week? more like a study week. Paparazzi will take up the bulk of time too, but at least that is fun la. Hmm. what else? Script writing assignment, reading log, making revision notes, catching up on readings are just some of the stuff that NEEDS to be completed this week.

BUT

I shall rest tmr.

midterm crisis + carpark

woohoo. I am so busy and will be super busy these few days and weeks. Projects after projects. In fact, it is projects AND projects, not after. :) Pardon my english, it is still early in the morning. COM225 ISP assignment 1 AND COM 255 Org Comm group project AND IC0103 E-Comm group project AND HG803 Tech Speaking Assignment 1 AND COM253 Cinema Studies weekly reading logs AND the countless mid-term tests and reviews coming up AND NOT rest (remembers lexis-nexis)

This semester is totally terrible with so much workload. Time is even shorter now that I have no hall. But thanks to Dad, I save a lot of travelling time, more than half saved as compared to taking public transport. Thanks DAD!!!

My updates will be slow slow for now as I rush to complete my assignments. ARGH! ARGH!

Anyway, today I am so happy that I got a sheltered carpark lot in NTU for free! haha. As I was driving to NTU from home, I prayed that I can get a carpark lot. (with the amount of cars in NTU, it is always hard to find one.) I went into SCI’s one, and nope, no space. I entered EEE’s one, and nope again. I was quite sad, but I still believed in my prayer. I told myself to try the SPMS carpark first before proceeding to Hall16 to park. and lo and behold, there was one nice empty lot in SPMS. I was woo-hooing. yay.

tts all for now. back to com 255 group asssignment.

Interior – Digital Climatic AirCon Control Panel – (Hyundai Avante 2006)

This is just the start of the many posts that I will be dedicating to evaluating this particular Korean car that has served us well. Hyundai Avante 2006 spec-ed. We bought it when the avante was not classified into S or no S. We bought it at that time when we didn’t have a choice of interior colours, or even the colours of the leather seats. We had no manual versions to choose from, no different trim levels to choose from. That’s how old the car is now (almost 3 years already)

So now here is the review of the digital climatic air-con control panel with some pictures to makes things clearer. Now, with different trim levels available, I think this digital climatic aircon thingy is not available for the manual versions, and the non-S version for the automatic.

You may ask what is the hoo haa over this system, and whether it is really worth it. Also some people do ask me whether the ‘engravings’ on the buttons will wear out after a while. Or whether the buttons will turn super yellow.

For me, I think I prefer this system as compared to the knob-by controls which clicks and clacks everytime you move the knobs. Also, the design of the fully digital aircon panel is so futuristic la. The LCD panel is continuously lit in soothing blue and the buttons will also light up when the headlights are switched on.

The LCD panel is so uncluttered, and gives u a summary of the settings at one glance. The fonts are nice, not too uncle too. And after 3 years, the panel is still as clear, and not showing any signs of degrading. I think that there is an antiglare coating on the screen too.

So here is the wider shot of the panel itself. This picture is not really clear, cause the car was parked in a dark location. The buttons are very very slightly discoloured (sun damage), but to an untrained eye, they will still seem white/transparent.

On the left side (from topleft to bottom right): Front windscreen demister, back demister, to lower temperature setting, to increase temperature setting, AUTO, and aircon & fan OFF.

The auto here is interesting. This setting will decide the fan speed for you based on the temperature you set, and if i am not wrong, it will open or close the external vents depending on your road speed. You can choose which setting that you do not want the AUTO to control. By clicking on the ‘vent’ button, the auto will disengage for the external vents, but the auto mode will still control your internal vents and your fan speed.

On the right side (from topleft to bottom right): ON/OFF compressor, open/close external vents (activates silently), fan speed down, fan speed up, scroll thru the modes (between upper internal vents, foot well vents, aircon with demisters, etc)

I hope this helps….

1st inspection here we come

haha. Time really flies. The 1st shipment of Hyundai Avantes are almost due for the 3rd-year vehicle inspection already. 3 years have passed since the 1st batch of Avantes arrived on Singapore’s shores. 3 years, and I am still impressed by the Korean car maker. No breakdowns, no weird clanking sounds, every door still closes tightly with a thud, the rubber seals still look new, the car paint is still as beautiful…Maybe I take good care of the car, but in clubhyundai’s forums, people are still loving and enjoying the korean made car. No major problems, apart from the ‘lemons.’

My dad’s car should be due for inspection soon, but no letter is here yet. (we bought the car after the 1st shipment). wait wait. Hopefully, we will pass this inspection (some modifications have been done to the car. :p)

Wise OR unwise

edit: The person in question clarified his statement, and I now understand his intended message. But I shall leave the post online for archival.

———————–

Wise as defined by Apple’s (Oxford) dictionary = having or showing experience, knowledge, and good judgment

I have an excellent(or downright dumb) example to illustrate how some people misuse the word, ‘wise’ and its derivatives.

I quote SS word for word, letter by letter.

next elections cumming soon, so bro & sis here, do cast your votes wisely. people always say malaysia govt cannot make it, but at least the fuel price remain constant.

Source: Try browsing through the comments to find this guy and here is the screenshot. :)

unwiseperson

I shall now break down his statement to state my points. I am a little sarcastic here as I am totally ‘IN AWE’ when I saw his comments.

1) ”next elections cumming soon…”

  • I shall not comment on the obvious grammar and sentence structure mistakes now. But I would like ask why the need for ‘cumming’ when ‘coming’ is 1 letter shorter. It doesn’t make sense to try to act cute by using the word ‘cumming’. Why the need to type 1 additional letter, when singlish is mostly used to shorten long words.
  • and how you define soon? Soon can be days, months and years. Quantify your terms properly

2) ” so bro & sis here”

  • nothing constructive to be said here

3) “…do cast your votes wisely…”

  • Of course, ALL Singaporeans should exercise their voting rights properly. Think through clearly, before giving a vote to that party, that someone. I will cast my votes wisely too, don’t worry about it.
  • This phrase, on its own, is not wrong. But wait for his reasoning after the next phrase. I just want to stand up, and clap in front of him for 1 hour. Seriously. I’m really serious about this.

4) “…people always sae malaysia govt cannot make it…”

  • Who are you to judge?
  • Always sae? You very sure about this? Maybe SOME people happy that the government can do that particular something well.

5) “…but at least the fuel price remain constant…”

  • THIS IS THE PHRASE THAT REALLY GOT ME GOING!!!!
  • Fuel can be used interchangeably, but pump is a better and more accurate word
  • I am really lazy to google for the graph explaining the fuel prices in Malaysia. But I am very sure, that the fuel prices were and are not constant. Do you know what constant is? Tell me the range of the x-axis that you plotted.
  • You are telling me that of all the things that the Singapore government did and is doing for her people, pump prices is the most important factor? You are telling me that voters must grade the government on how well they keep the prices constant? You are telling me that for YOU to be pleased, a government will just need to keep the pump prices stable? FLY AWAY LAH! Migrate to THAT country, that is run by THAT government, that YOU CLAIM can keep pump prices stable. Go go GO! If you willing to, I will take my hats off to you, and will wallow in sadness and regret as I have wasted my time typing this post.
  • You rather be living in misery? You rather be living in broken home? You rather be living in a country with lower standard of living? You rather be facing riots everyday? You rather be facing high food prices? You rather be using roads with so many portholes? You rather suffer under bad leadership? You rather be faced with social unrest? You rather suffer with an empty bank account? You rather… you rather…. ALL just for constant PUMP prices? Are you serious? I SERIOUSLY DON’T THINK YOU CAN EVEN GET A CAR WITH SUCH A GOVERNMENT. Without a car, how are YOU going to enjoy the CONSTANT PUMP PRICES.

It takes a lot to get me fired up. And you just did it for me today. Be careful what you wish for, SS. You try reflecting what you just said, and give yourself a few slaps across your face to wake up from your dreamland. What a joke, u rather sacrifice a relatively, and comparably excellent government for another government to keep pump prices stable. WHAT A JOKE!!

I am sorry to be harsh. I know that issues regarding pump prices are very sensitive and close to one’s heart. I know that the increase/decrease of crude oil prices is NEVER proportional to the pump prices. I know that the cartels in Singapore are capable of doing more for Singapore’s drivers. I know that the government needs to do something and step in to bring the cartels back to Earth. There are more questions than answers. And sometimes, the answers never come.

BUT, there is no need for your outrageously, unfair, unwise comment. Think before typing. Not just think, PONDER before commenting.

And you tell me to be wise.

I AM BEING WISE NOW.
