Look very closely. No, it’s not a hotel reception with a Peranakan theme. This picture was taken at GV’s new theatre which opened at 112 Katong in December last year. Thanks to my good-ol’ friends who gave me a pair of tickets (36 to 38 bucks per pax) for my birthday, I was able to experience, for the first time ever, a new (and extremely expensive) way to enjoy a movie. (and yes, I have never experienced Gold Class at Great World City and Vivo City though, so won’t be able to do a comparison)

I turned up way before the stipulated movie screening time to exchange the gift voucher for 2 tickets thinking that there was high demand for seats. I was wrong. I was the only one there and it stayed that way till our movie, Safe House, ended. We had the whole theatre to ourselves, shiok only. While waiting for ours to start, a Caucasian couple came in, paid good money for the expensive GV Gold Class food (sets start at around 30 bucks), and waited for the start their movie, Iron Lady.

This is my first time here, and it may well be my last too. Yes, I get to enjoy nice reclining seats, a comfy warm blanket, personalised service, waiters and waitresses at my beck and call, a well-furnished theatre with no kids screaming at the top of their heads, an interesting way to enjoy movies (novelty will wear off after a while?). But nah, I will think twice (or maybe like 10 times) before even plonking down money for a Gold Class seat.
