An Intern with Starhub: End of Week 1

This week has been quite a awesome one. The 1st week of internship was filled with events that violated my expectations. People were like saying how working at a PR agency would be better. Some even scared me by saying that big corporations tend to use their interns as coffee boys or girls. I wasn’t really worried, but I am now quite sure that my mind was subconsciously processing those issues continuously.

Maybe, just maybe, that’s why I keep having this nauseating feeling. That irritating feeling that you are going to throw up. I just can’t describe in words. It is just plain irritating. I only get this when I am super stressed – like during examinations. This is the first time that this weird feeling has stayed with me long after the exams were over. Get lost now, I don’t need you in my life now. I want to eat good food. I want to eat the Ayam Penyet in the newly opened cafeteria. I want to drink carbonated drinks.

The only good from this episode is that I am slimming down really quickly. Haha, lost about 4 KGs within the past week.

Okay, back to the internship stuff. Everything’s well. For one, my immediate superiors treat me as though I am a full-time staff. And seeing how they trust me with confidential information makes me quite happy inside. Simply put, they treat me like a fellow human being. I dig such management styles. In this time and age, there is just no place for micromanagers.

They have also let me handle some projects within this past week and the workload is going increase by quite a bit with several more events and projects being planned.

Having learnt so much about the actual practice of corp comms and how the managers have had to handle so many ‘crises’ within just one week is actually quite exciting. Can’t wait for more.

23 weeks more. God, thank you. :) Now for more rest to help my stomach recover.
